David Thorpe is a writer for ESPN.com and the Executive Director of The Pro Training Center basketball academy in Clearwater, Florida.
Thorpe started what is considered to be the first basketball academy in America in 1993, an industry that now has programs in all 50 US states. His academy has trained/consulted with more than 60 men who’ve played in the NBA, including but not limited to Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, Kevin Martin, Martell Webster, Corey Brewer, Omri Casspi, and Udonis Haslem.
Thorpe began writing for ESPN.com in 2006. He authors a weekly page one column called, “The Rookie 50” during the regular season and a weekly page one column, “Postseason MVP” once the playoffs begin. He has consistently ranked in the Top 10 every year for ESPN Insider subscriptions sales, and in the past two years, he has made over 150 appearances on ESPN Radio, SportsCenter, and TrueHoopTV, where he is the single most frequent guest in the web show’s history.
Additionally, Thorpe has a worldwide influence in the basketball space, having run basketball programs for Nike in Turkey and Mexico, and has mentored and consulted with young NBA executive talents such as, Jason Levien (former CEO of Memphis Grizzlies), Masai Uljiri (President of Toronto Raptors), Daryl Morey (President of Houston Rockets), Tommy Shepherd (Assistant GM of Washington Wizards), and John Hollinger (Vice President of Memphis Grizzlies).
